ATTACKS ON JAPAN
FROM AIR BASES IN CHINA. AMERICAN VICE-PRESIDENT’S ANTICIPATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, February 9. “The day will come when there will be sufficient planes in China to permit the United Nations to strike regularly at the heart of Japan.” declared the Vice-President, Mr Wallace, addressing a luncheon of the Institute of Pacific Relations. “Patience is necessary,” he added, “but we hope that planes, in addition to words, will very soon be going to China.” The “Herald Tribune” says that remarks in other speeches have reflected an undercurrent of criticism of the United States for ignoring the Chinese mission which has been in America for several months. Democratic Representative James Curley, addressing the House of Representatives, urged an ad-; equate supply of planes and othei- mat-' erials for China. “The war against the Japanese could be ended in six months if America went in at the back door,” he said.
