———— Major-General Harry Williams, Di-rector-General of Welfare and Education in the British Army, has been killed in a flying accident in the Middle East, a London cablegram reports. ■Mr W. F. Young, who has acted as judge for the majority of racing clubs in Southland in recent years, has decided to resign from the position, as his time will be fully occupied with his new duties as manager of Southland Totalisators.
Mr Frank Rowse, who died in Palmerston North at the age of 87, was well-known in the Makomako district, where he farmed successfully for 35 years. Born in Cornwall, Mr Rowse came to New Zealand at the age of 17, and after engaging in various occupations, took up land at Makomako. Left to mourn his death are Messrs W. Rowse (Makomako), F. Rowse (Ohingaiti), C. Rowse (Pahiatua), N. Rowse (overseas), Mrs A. Vile . (Palmerston North), Miss Etta Rowse (Marton), and Miss Elsie Rowse (Dunedin). The funeral of the late Mr S. E. Willoughby took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. Services at the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. David McNeur. The pallbearers were Messrs R. Milne, W. White, H. Carson and John Gray. Among the many beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the Masterton drovers, members of the Master ton Football Club, members of the Red Star Football Club, the Drovers and Stock and Station Agents. There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral.
