FIGHTER ATTACKS

, ON RAILWAY TARGETS IN FRANCE SNEAK RAIDS ON BRITAIN. CROWDED TRAIN FINDS REFUGE IN TUNNEL. LONDON, February 9. R.A.F. figliters were out on offensive patrols in Northern France today. They also attacked railway targets. Three aircraft have not reported back at their base. Pictures published in London evening papers tonight indicate that as far as the Luftwafl'e is concerned Britain is still very much in the front line. They show shattered houses on the outskirts of London, hit by sneak raiders which have taken advantage of cloudy weather to drop bombs on many parts of the Home, Countries. Londoners heard the wail of sirens this morning—the first daylight alert for nearly three weeks. The driver of a train crowded with business people drove quickly into a tunnel and stayed there until the raider had gone. The raider had already started to machinegun the carriages. Bombs were dropped at. random. No bombs were dropped during the night, but a German aircraft was shot down off the south-east coast.'
