Salvage of Crashed Plane.
Successful salvage operations have been carried out on the air liner Kuaka, which crashed on the slopes of Flagstaff Hill on Friday, a Dunedin Press Association message reports. A bulldozer was used to clear a track to the nearest roadway, and the machine was dismantled and the engines removed to hangars. The fuselage was raised on its landing wheels, and with the wings was eased downhill by the bulldozer and taken to the airport. All repairs will be made at the company’s local hangars. The manager of the Union Company, Mr G. F. Booth, described the salvage as a magnificent job. Buchanan Trust. A free gift of £20,000 by the Misses K. and J. Buchanan, Hawera, has been vested in what is to be known as the Buchanan Trust, for the benefit of ex-servicemen, nurses, and members of the Mercantile Marine domiciled in South Taranaki who have received temporary or permanent disability as a result of war services, and also for the benefit of their children or widows. The desire of the donors is that the whole fund shall be disposed of within, 10 years from the declaration of peace. The Misses Buchanan are daughters of Mr Donald Buchanan, a South Taranaki pioneer, and nieces of the late Sir Walter Buchanan.
