NAZI EXACTIONS
CONCEALED FROM PEOPLE OB FRANCE DEATH & OTHER SENTENCES. ON NAVAL PERSONNEL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, February 8. According to information received in London, France is now paying 500 million francs daily in occupation costs to Germany, instead of 300 million. It is also learned that, as a result of the meeting between Hitler and Laval some weeks ago, France is paying 35 million francs more daily to Italy. The Germans demanded extensive deliveries of railway rolling stock and more wheat. Germany has also been promised about 200 miles of railway lines monthly and 2,300 skilled railway Workers, in addition to 9,500 who have already gone to Germany. These facts are carefully concealed from the French public. A court-martial at Toulon sentenced to death a number of French naval personnel accused of being in the service of the British since 1941. The Berlin radio reported this and added that others were, sentenced to be imprisoned for twenty years.
