Methods for furthering New Zealand’s war effort and assisting to ensure an Allied victory in 1943 were the basis of detailed discussion by an enlarged meeting of the National Committee of the Communist Party of New Zealand. Delegates from all over the country agreed in stressing the need to develop our war potential still further. There was general condemnation of the campaign for the return of the New Zealand Division from Africa at the very time when the opening of a second front in Europe becomes possible. Methods agreed on as necessary for actively increasing the war effort included the strengthening of the stabilisation plan by extension of rationing and better organisation of manpower (especially through Joint Production Committees), a greater provision of creches and other facilities for women wishing to enter industry, and a further strengthening of unity both internally and between the Allied nations.
