LAND GIRLS

EQUIPMENT DIFFICULTIES. MATTER TAKEN UP BY MR FRASER. (Bv T’plp.gran'h—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 2. Promises made to land girls by Mrs Dreaver, M.P., and herself during a recruiting tour were made in all good faith, according to information given them, said Mrs Grigg, M.P., in a statement tonight, following articles in various newspapers on the delay in the issue of equipment to the Women’s Land Service and criticising the failure to carry out promises. “Though we were used as recruiting agents, we have no official status in the Land Service and no power to expedite the issue of equipment,” said Mrs Grigg. “We have both, however, made constant representations to the department about the growing amount of dissatisfaction which has been brought to my notice.” On Monday, Mrs Grigg received the following reply from Mr Fraser: —“I very much regret and I am much concerned about the delay in supplying equipment to land girls. The matter is being taken up with a view to having equipment provided as early as possible.” “It is to be hoped thgt the authorities will shortly be able to surmount the undoubted difficulties of supply and fulfil the promises made to the girls who are most gallantly carrying on with their arduous and vital work,” commented Mrs Grigg.
