LARGE LORRY COLUMN

CUT OFF BY SOVIET MOBILE UNITS. AND NOW BEING DESTROYED (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, January 29. The latest Soviet communique reports a continuation of offensive operations on the south-west, north Caucasus, Voronezh, Volkov- and Leningrad fronts, and adds that Russian troops advanced in the Don area and continued to mop up isolated enemy groups, some of whom are laying down their arms and surrendering. On the Voronezh front Russian tanks and cavalry killed 3000 of the encircled men and captured 6000, including three generals. In the North Caucasus, Russian mobile units, in one sector, penetrated to the enemy’s rear and cutoff a large lorry column. Fighting is now proceeding for the annihilation of this column.
