A United States Navy Department communique says: “Two Japanese float planes attacked United States ships operating west of our position in the Aleutians, but did no damage. American troops on Guadalcanal continued on Tuesday to advance to the west, despite stiff enemy resistance. Forty Japanese were killed and five prisoners and some equipment were captured.
