OPAKI TRACK WORK CHEERFUL LADY AND OLIEN LOOKING WELL Conditions were excellent at the Opaki race track early yesterday when members of the teams handled by trainers T. R. George, Ashley Jenkins and B. Kelleher were exercised. The final gallops before the Pahiatua meeting at Otakl on Saturday were held this morning. Horses engaged for Saturday’s meeting at Otaki working yesterday included Olein, Full Light, Gamble, Gay Fox and Cheerful Lady. Olein, a good looking chestnut, who has failed to reproduce at race meetings its brilliant track work, is looking a picture and if everything goes well in the Konini Hack Handicap of seven furlongs, should be among tho first to line up for home. Cheerful Lady is a fit mare and with the opposition she will meet in the Eketahuna Handicap on Saturday should have good chances of saluting the judge. V. J. Sellars will have the mount. Full Light, who will be ridden by A. Jenkins ' in the maiden race, carried out good useful work. Gay Fox, who will be ridden by V. J. Sellars in the Pahiatua Cup, conveyed the impression that it is a little soon yet to expect anything wonderful from this horse. Gamble will be ridden by A. Jenkins in the Highweight Handicap. It has to be remembered that the great mare Cuddle, Gamble’s dam, was at her best as a four-year-old, and Gamble at three years has some distance to go yet before anything like winning form can be expected. In addition to the mounts mentioned above, A. Jenkins will ride Po Huka in the Konini Hack Handicap and K. Smith will ride Lady Neon. Wairoa Prospects. Although many horses engaged have been| accepted for in different races, the following runners at the Wairoa meeting on Saturday may be favoured by the public:— Trial Handicap (12.30): Monmouth, KinTe Kupenga Hack Handicap .(1.10): Peter’s Wife, Sporting Sister, Royal Melton. Wairoa Cup (1.50): Lowry Bay, Pompit, Centennial. Maiden Stakes (2.30): -Princess - Baffles, Dark Bloom, Note Raid. Carroll Memorial Handicap (3.10): Lastik, Many Stitches, Regal Night. i Ormond Memorial (3.50): Black Majesty, Ex Pupil, Ivar. Champion Hack Cup (4.30): Queen Cardine, Peter's Wife, Royal Melton. Rauwa Hack Handicap (5.10): Darag, Prairie Girl, Earlscourt. This Morning’s Gallops. The weather was beautifully fine for the final gallops at the Opaki race track early this morning. Highlight of the gallops was a brilliant 7-furlong sprint by Olein, on the plough, in 1.32. Other horses mentioned in yesterday’s work were given useful gallops. Olein will possibly be ridden by Wilson Ellis on Saturday.
