BOWLING
VETERANS’ CHALLENGE MATCH. FOR J. C. EWINGTON BADGES. (Notes by “The Bowler.”) Yesterday afternoon, on, the Masterton Bowling Club’s green, a challenge match for the J. C. Ewington badges was played between the holders, Blane, Denbee, Doughty and C. Perry (s), and a team from the Masterton Club, as challengers, comprising Hyde, Dorset, Maxwell and E. W. Nielsen (s). After a most enjoyable game,, the holders won by 8 points. The success of the winners was in a large measure due to the consistent “leading’ ’of Blane, and the accurate “driving” of Doughty. The green was in first-class order. Details of the match are as follows: — On the fourth head the scores were: Perry 6, Nielsen 2, but on the eighth head Nielsen had a lead of 2 points. The eleventh head showed fairly even scoring, Perry being 10 and Nielsen 9. Perry had a lead of 5 points on the fifteenth head, and this was increased to 8 points on the 18th head. The final scores were: Perry’s team 23, Nielsen’s team 15.
