CARTERTON
BOWLING CLUBi CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. (“Times-Age” Special.) , The following games were played on the Carterton 'green last evening:— Champion fours: Smith, McCarty, Barber, Hart (s) beat Kilmister, King, Curtis, Harp (s), 22/19. This was an extraordinary game. On the 20th end the scores were 19/13 in favour of Harp. Requiring 6 to tie and 7 to win, Hart got 6 and tied. Two extra heads were played before Hart won. This result now brings all the teams remaining in the competition to “one life/s.” Progressive pairs: Beaven and Hawker (s) beat Daysh and Tucker (s), 26/15. Air Force Band Concert. Great interest is being taken in the concert to be given on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday next by the Air Force Band. Given fine weather a very large attendance is assured. Something new in band marching will be presented and this alone should be worth going to see. In the evening at the State Theatre a patriotic dance will be held. The music will be played by the dance orchestra of the Air Force Band. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. T. Leete, who have been spending a holiday at Raumati Beach, have returned to Carterton. Miss Rita J ones, on behalf of the Sunday schooly, referred to the good work done by Miss Vaughan for the school over a number of'years. They hoped that she would enjoay good health and make progress in her work as nurse at Napier Hospital. Miss R. Surtees spoke on behalf of members of the Bible Class and Mrs Wadham referred to the excellent services given by Miss Vaughan in connection with the Sunday School, Bible Class and church work generally. The Rev J. A. Daglish spoke in a similar strain and on behalf of the Methodist congregation presented her with a gold pendant and two books. Miss Vaughan feelingly replied. Supper was provided.
