OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
4 NIGHT FLYING (To the Editor) Sir, —As a citizen who pays for the upkeep of this country I strongly protest against night flying by planes over this town. There is reason in all things, and no one objects to planes flying till eleven o’clock, but when it continues till 3.30 next morning—well, it is over the odds. The reason given in your paper for planes flying over housetops in preference to open country is open to doubt. The people of this town, especially women, have suffered for many months with shattered nerves and now they walk the streets or lie awake waiting for these droning engines to cease. If this practice of night-flying is not curtailed it leaves me with the only option to make an appeal to a member of Parliament or the Air Minister. Soldiers are coming here to recuperate and have a good rest. They will receive a rude awakening.—l am, etc., BE REASONABLE. Masterton, January 27.
