REGENT THEATRE
“BADLANDS OF DAKOTA” “Badlands of Dakota” will be finally shown tonight. “HALF WAY TO SHANGHAI” Commencing tomorrow the Regent Theatre will present an exceptionally good double-feature programme headed by “Half Way to Shanghai.” Described as a fast-moving action melodrama, the story is centred aboard a railroad train running from Lashio, Burma Road terminus, to Rangoon. Included in the cast is Irene Henry, who portrays an impoverished White Russian; Kent Taylor, cast as an American construction engineer; a trio of German Gestapo agents, a retired British Army officer, and a Burmese detective. Exciting from it’s opening scene, the picture is one that keeps the audience in a state of excitement for an hour. The associate feature, “Timber,” pictures another acute phase of the war on the home front—the threat of sabotage of our forests. Co-starred are a trio of favourites —Leo Carrillo, Andy Devine and Dan Dailey, Junr. The colourful story follows mainly the adventurous career of a government agent sent to a timber project to stamp out suspected sabotage. Of breathtaking interest is the diabolically clever method the saboteurs employ in disposing of great truckloads of lumber careening down a steep grade to the mill. > “Reap the Wild Wind” will commence its Masterton season at a matinee at 2.15 on Saturday.
