WOMEN’S DIVISION INMATES OF HOME ENTERTAINED (“Times-Age” Special.) A Women’s Division concert party paid a visit to the Buchanan Home, Greytown, 'and entertained the inmates. In the absence of the president, Mrs J. Standin, Mrs H. E. Ordish presided. The inmates greatly appreciated the programme provided and heartily applauded each item. The following was the programme: Pianoforte duet, Misses Belle Ordish and B. Newbould; songs. by Mesdames Linton, Bassett and Rose; recitations by Mrs Peters; mandolin solo, Mrs H. E. Ordish; piano solo, Mrs Gordon Campbell. Mrs Keith Reid played the accompaniments. * Community singing was much enjoyed. Afternoon tea was supplied by the Division to the inmates. Miss Higgison (matron) thanked Mrs Ordish and her party for the excellent concert provided, which gave so much pleasure to the inmates of the Home. Public Service Examination. The following Carterton candidates have passed the Public Service Entrance examination held in November. A. M. Simmonds, H. F. Robinson, A. H. C. Stewart. Personal Items. Mr Arthur Ingley, manager of the Carterton gasworks, was on a ladder yesterday when it collapsed. Mr Ingley fell heavily to the ground, injuring a shoulder and wrist. Fie was conveyed to Masterton, where Dr. Prior attended him. Miss E. Newbould, of the borough office staff, who spent-a holiday in-Petone and at the seaside resorts in Wellington, has returned. Mr and Mrs L. H. Smart have received cabled advice that their daughter, Miss Molly Smart, had recovered sufficiently from her serious illness and had been discharged from a hospital in the Middle East. News has been received in Carterton of the death of Mr Charles Hodder, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Jas. Hodder, at the age of 70 years: He was born at Clareville and received his education at Carterton and Dalefield schools. He had resided at Pongaroa for a period of over 40 years. He married a Miss Goff, of Pahiatua. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family. Mr W. Martin returned on Monday after a trip to the South Island. Mrs Martin and family have returned from Raumati beach. BOWLING PRAGNELL CUP. In a Pragnell Cup match, F. Harrington. defeated W. Sorensen by 19 points to 17. Champion pairs—McCarty and Daysh (s) beat Martin and Callender (s), 27/8. Progressive pairs. — Colson and Hughan (s) beat Pankhurst and Riggs (s), 32/17. REGENT THEATRE “BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON.” “Beyond the Blue Horizon” will be finally shown tonight. The picture is full of thrills, laughs, romance and comedy, with Dorothy Lamour and Richard Denning in the leading roles.
