SMASHING ATTACK
PROMISED BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT MESSAGE TO NORTHERN IRELAND. ANNIVERSARY OF AMERICAN LANDING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) RUGBY, January 26. President Roosevelt, in a message on the occasion of the first anniversary of the landing of American troops in Northern Ireland, said: “Things have changed greatly in these twelve months. We think no longer of defence —that is past. Now and henceforth we think of attack—determined, unrelenting and smashing attack. Our troops and ’ those of the United Kingdom, Canada and other Dominions and Allies have chafed at inaction. They will get action. The road to Berlin is long and hard, but it is very sure.” The anniversary of the landing of the United States troops in Northern Ireland was commemorated in Belfast today. The Prime Minister, Mr J. M. Andrews, described the landing as an occasion of historic and worldwide importance, signifying the determination of the English-speaking peoples, with the other United Nations, to free the world from the tyranny of aggression.
