3 DANCE IN TOWN HALL ENJOYABLE GATHERING. L . ’ . (“Times-Age” Special.) L There was a large attendance at a dance held on Saturday night in the ’ Town Hall. The music was supplied 1 by Mrs. O. J.. Ashton’s orchestra. ’ Mr. Ashton made a very capable M.C. Extras were played by Misses G. Fraser, M. Gunderson and Sergt. F. Savage. A novelty dance was won by Miss N. Cade and a mystery parcel by Mr. G. Lowell. The stage and supper room were beautifully decorated by Mrs. F. Alexander. The supper arrangements | were in the very capable hands of the Junior Patriotic Committee. Those present spent a most enjoyable time. Personal Items. Miss S. Piper, Fitzherbert Street, is spending a short holiday in Wellington. Mrs. R. Barclay, of Dunedin, is visiting relatives in Featherston. Mrs. G. S. Sharp, Johnson Street, is spending a holiday at the Sounds. Mr. D. Shepherd has returned home after a visit to Auckland. Miss M. Dunton, Bell Street, is visiting Palmerston North. COSY THEATRE “JOAN OF PARIS.” The programme on Wednesday night will be headed by the outstanding war drama, “Joan of Paris,” in which lovely Michele Morgan, foremost French film star, and Paul Henreid of “Night Train” fame, make their Americanfilm debuts. Miss Morgan is cast as a Parisian barmaid who falls in love with Henreid, a Free French flyer, and at great personal sacrifice aids him to escape to England so that he may some day return to help liberate her oppressed country. Thomas Mitchell, Laird Cregar and May Robson appear | in support. .
