The position of Fifth Sea Lord, which has been vacant for some time, has been filled with the appointment tof Rear-Admiral D. W. Boyd, C.8.E., D.S.C., who will also take over the duties of Chief of Naval Air Equipment, a London cablegram states. RearAdmiral Boyd will also supervise matters relating to the Fleet Air Arm. He is 51, and organised the .air attack which crippled the Italian fleet at Taranto. He was in command of the carriers Illustrious and Formidable, and while in the latter ship helped to bring the Italians to battle at Cape Matapan.
