MAORI GIRL
DEATH IN UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES AFTER GOING FOR DRIVE NEAR FOXTON. POLICE INVESTIGATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association. I I PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. A Maori woman, Alice Takar.ua, aged about 30 and single, who resided with her parents at Motuiti Pa, near Foxton, died in the early hours of this morning under unusual circumstances. So far as has been ascertained, she went 1 for a drive in a car with an> unknown man. They returned to Motuiti about midnight and Miss Takarua’s brother found her in the car in an unconscious condition. He lifted her out and the car drove on. Dr Crawford, of Foxton, was sent for and arrived shortly afterwards. He found the girl alive, but unconscious. She died a few minutes later. The Foxton police were immediately informed and Constable J. Forsyth at once communicated with Inspector Scott, of Palmerston North. The inspector and Senior Detective Meiklejohn proceeded to Foxton. Investigations are still proceeding. It is understood that the identity of the driver of the car has been established. An earlier message, from Foxton, stated that the girl was found to liave suffered head injuries.
