To conserve motor parts and especially to save rubber by reducing tire wear, all • vehicles in Australia, excepting those of the defence and emergency services will be restricted to 40 miles an hour after February 1. Tests have proved that from 30 to 35 m.p.h. is the most economical speed for tire wear, and the new limit is expected to give tires now in use an average life of 18,000 miles.
