SERIOUS TONE
TAKEN BY WHOLE GERMAN PRESS REGARDING THE OUTLOOK IN RUSSIA. TALK OF VAST TIDE SWEEPING WESTWARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, January 22. The whole of the German Press has adopted a very serious tone about the military outlook in Russia, says “The Times” German frontier correspondent, who quotes the “Munchener Neueste Nachte Richten” as an example. The High Command’s brief reports have told the German people of the merciless hardness of this struggle, says the paper, and inconceivable tenancity must be maintained against the wild onslaughts of an enemy who is determined to win, whatever the cost. The Russians are suffering gigantic losses and the intensity of the battles exceeds anything in history. A Germari front line broadcast said: “A vast tidal wave is sweeping westward. Oh God give us strength to stem this flood.’’
