BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Two games in the Carterton Bowling Club’s singles championship were played last evening. Curtis beat Harp, 25/16, and Riggs beat Barber, 17/16. Personal items. Mrs G. Steffert, senr., has received letters from her son, “Arty” Steffert, the well-known ex-Wairarapa representative footballer, who is a prisoner of war in Germany, stating that he is fit and well. Mrs Campbell, who had spent a holiday at Taihaoe, returned to Carterton yesterday. Home Guard Dance Tonight. The dance to be held in the State Theatre, Carterton, tonight by the Carterton Home Guard Company promises to be a pronounced success. Good music will be provided, and a number of novelty dances will be included in the programme. The supper arrangements are in the hands of a capable committee. The first dance will be at 8.30 o’clock. Borough Council. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held on Tuesday night. Magistrate's Court. The first sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court this year will be held before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., on Wednesday next. , New Books at Public Library. The following new books have been added to the shelves of the Carterton Public Library:—“Garden of Paradise,” Stella Morton; “Light and Shade,” Jean Barre; “Gay Adventure,” Valentine; “Viewless Winds,” Herbert Morgan; “A Parson in Prison,” Melville Harcourt. PLUNKET SOCIETY "''~ J PRESENTATION TO MRS CALLENDER. The committee of the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society met yesterday afternoon to farewell Mrs C. C. Callender, who is leaving the district. During afternoon tea Mrs Wells spoke of the regret the committee felt at losing Mrs Callender’s services and asked her to accept a small crystal bowl as an appreciation and memento of her Plunket Committee work in Carterton. Mrs Callender • suitably replied. REGENT THEATRE ! “THE PENALTY.” “The Penalty,” a sensational drama telling an unusual story, will be finally shown tonight.
