Feilding Stud Sheep Sale.
At the stud sheen sale, at Feilding on Wednesday, Mr W. R. Oakley. Waipukurau, topped the market for Southdowns ,obtaining 375 gns .for a ram sold to Mr W. A. Jeffries, Waikato. The second highest price, 300 gns., was secured by Mr H. J. Andrew, Maheno. Mr A. Wheeler, Martop, obtained the highest price in Romneys, 410 gns., the purchaser being Mr A. Galt, South Island. Other Romneys brought up to 370 gns. Unfit Returned Men. The undertaking given some time ago that men who had served overseas and were unlikely to become fit again for active service would be discharged from the forces to the reserve is covered by an amendment .to the National Service Emergent Regulations gazetted last night. In the past the Ad-jutant-General has had authority to discharge only those returned soldiers who were graded as permanently unfit. The amendment gives him power to grant discharges to men who have served overseas in the present war,' and who have been returned to New Zealand and are unlikely to become fit for further active service. This will have the effect of facilitating the rehabilitation of such men. Enrolment for National Service, “Every male upon reaching the age of 18 is required by law to enrol for national service,” said the Minister of National Service, Mr McLagan, at Wellington yesterday. He said he had information that some youths of this age and over believed that they had fulfilled all obligations by enrolling under the Social Security scheme, and in some cases for manpower purposes. This was incorrect. The Minister also drew attention to the legal requirement imposed on all employers to satisfy themselves that every male employee of an age covered by the General Reserve Proclamation was enrolled. This responsibility began when the employee : had completed seven days of his en- i gagement. Mr McLagan mentioned that a number of prosecutions for non-com- j pliance with his obligation had been i taken in the past, and would continue ■ to be taken quite irrespective of any incorrect belief held by the man affected. i ■
