The Foreign Secretary, Mr Eden, was asked today in the House of Commons whether Rome could be considered an open city, and whether he would impress on the Cabinet the desirability of bombing the Italian capital. Mr Eden replied that he thought Mr Churchill had made it plain last September that Britain has as much right to bomb Rome as. the Italians had to bomb London, and would not hesitate to do so to the best of her ability and as heavily as possible if the course of the war made such action a necessity.
