AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT PLANS , EXPENDITURE OF SIXTY j MILLIONS. 'OVER THREE-YEAR TERM. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The social service plan being prepared by the Federal Government is understood to provide for the spending of £60,000,000 in the next three years. Details are expected to be announced by the Federal Treasurer, Mr Chifley, when Parliament meets next week. The plan provides for a first instalment of expenditure of £30,000,000, the 1 remaining £30,000,000 to be spread over the remainder of a three-year term. Federal circles regard the plan as the Government’s answer to those who demand an improved social system and guarantee of social security after the war. The proposals are believed to provide for: — (1) Improved repatriation rights including pensions for service women. (2) Sustenance for service men between ‘demobilisation and civilian reemployment. and high service pensions. (3) National health and medical services. (4) Maternal and child welfare services and pre-natal and post-naval payments to mothers. (5) Unemployment benefits and a national housing plan.
