NEW ZEALAND DIVISION
QUESTION OF RETURN FROM MIDDLE EAST ATTITUDE OF GOVERNMENT & WAR CABINET. STATED BY MR SULLIVAN. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “It is the desire and intention of the Government and of the War Cabinet to return our Division to New Zealand from the Middle East as soon as it is possible to do so,” said the Minister of Supply, Mr D. G. Sullivan, when opening the Labour campaign in the Christchurch East by-election. Mr Sullivan deprecated any attempt by members of Parliament to win support by advocating the return of the Division. The Minister said he hoped no person in the campaign, and especially no member of Parliament, would exploit the anxiety and attention of the people with regard to the return of the Division. I say especially members of Parliament,” he added, “because every member is completely familiar with the entire story. Every member knows that the Prime Minister has been absolutely frank with Parliament. He has told them everything and has read to them cablegrams which have passed between Mr Churchill and himself.”
