TRIPOLI SUBURBS
ENTERED BY EIGHTH ARMY UNITS AFTER LIGHTNING ADVANCE ACCORDING TO AXIS RADIO. PARIS REPORTS PARATROOP LANDINGS. REUTERS QUOTE ,AN AXIS RADIO REPORT THAT ADVANCE UNITS OF THE EIGHTH ARMY, IN A LIGHTNING ADVANCE, HAVE PENETRATED THE SUBURBS OF TRIPOLI, WHICH ARE IN FLAMES. The Morocco radio says Rommel has already begun to embark his troops from Tripoli.’ According to the Paris radio, British paratroops have landed behind Rommel’s Afrika Korps to harass his communications. Another message states that the Eighth Army is closing in on Tripoli and that Axis forces are streaming out of the town towards the Tunisian frontier. A 8.8. C. reporter states that it looks as if Rommel is getting everything he can out of Tripoli, Pilots on intruder patrols report a solid line of enemy traffic. Many vehicles are in a hopeless traffic jam. All the pilots bring back the same story—devastating fires, explosions and traffic brought to a standstill.
