FOURTH TERM?
FOR PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. REPUBLICAN SPECULATION IN UNITED STATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, January 19. The Democratic national committee unanimously elected the PostmasterGeneral, Mr Frank Walker, as chairman, in succession to Mr Edward Flynn. The “Herald-Tribune’s” Washington correspondent says prominent Republicans interpret Mr Walker’s election as a further indication that President Roosevelt intends to seek a fourth term. They say the Democrats want a “non-shoddy” man for the party. It is held that this is the real reason why the Australian Ministership was offered to Mr Flynn whose paving-block matters might be difficult to explain’ during an. election campaign. Republicans forecast that efforts will also be made to get solid support for Mr Roosevelt from the southern Democrats, who dislike many of the New Deal actions. It is claimed that Mr Roosevelt will seek a fourth term on the ground, if the war is not finished, that he understands the position better, than anyone else, and if the war is ended, that nobody better understands post-war problems.
