The development of a new catalytic refining process for producing superior aviation petrol is announced by the oudry Process Corporation, a Washington cablegram reports. The octane rating of the new petrol is so great that aeroplane motors must be redesigned to make full use of its power. For that reason the chief value of the new process at present is to raise the octane rating of aviation fuels. The development makes possible the designing of vastly more powerful aeroplane engines, producing greater speeds, manoeuvrability and flying range. The adiabatic catalytic cracking method produces the new fuel from heavy nephtha, which is at present available in greater quantities than crude oil.
