SHACKLING OF PRISONERS
STATEMENT LIKELY SOON IN BRITAIN. ACTION BY PROTECTING POWERS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) RUGBY, January 19. In answer to a question in the House of Commons, the Foreign Secretary (Mr Eden) said he hoped to make a statement regarding the shackling of prisoners soon, but at present wished to avoid prejudicing any prospect of an inquiry into the improvement of the position which might be arranged by the protecting Powers.
