It is officially ..announced in Algiers that M. Peyrouten has been appointed Governor-General of Algeria. 1 M. Peyrouten has had several meetings with General Giraud sinte his arrival in Algeria on January 16. He has also seen General Eisenhower. M. Peyrouten, who served in Petain’s Cabinet as Minister of the Interior, resigned from the Ambassadorship to Argentina after Laval’s assumption of power last April. Fighting French circles have expressed opposition to his appointment to a high office under General Giraud.
