The Prime Minister, General Smuts, in the Assembly, amid loud cheers from the Government benches, announced that he would move on January 21: “That in view of the progress of the war and the prospect of the early expulsion of the enemy from the Continent of Africa, the House approves the emplcyment of South African forces beyond this continent, on a basis of voluntary recruitment.”
