OBITUARY

MR LEONARD HOULBROOKE. The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital yesterday of Mr Leonard Houlbrooke, of Eketahuna, at the age of 73 years. The late Mr Houlbrooke was engaged for many years farming in the' Tiraumea district, and carried on his work on profitable lines, being well known as a successful breeder of stock. He took a keen interest in public affairs in the district and was associated with various local bodies such as the county council. He was a keen churchman and was a lay preacher and keen supporter of the Church of England. About twelve months ago he retired to live in Eketahuna where he became connected with St. Cuthbert’s Church as an official and lay preacher. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. The late Mr Houlbrooke was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity. He was a Past Master of the Pongaroa and Eketahuna lodges, Past Z of the Wairarapa Royal Axch Chapter and at the time of his death held the office of Assistant Wellington Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies. The funeral will take place tomorrow leaving St. Cuthbert’s Church at the conclusion of a service commencing at 1.45 p.m. for the Eketahuna Cemetery.
