ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. ’ (“Times-Age” Special.) Bro. J. A. T. Stevens, N.G., presided over the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Heart of Oak Odd Fellows’ Lodge held last evening. The District Secretary, Bro. P. F. Foot, notified that a meeting of the District Management Committee would be held on Saturday evening next. Bro. S. Park, secretary of the Loyal Britannia Lodge, wrote stating that the centenary of the lodge would be held on Monday, February 22, and invited a representative of the Carterton Lodge to be present. A letter was received from Bro. L. Kitchen, of Pahiatua, notifying that he had resigned the secretaryship of the Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge owing to military duties and that Bro. Cross had been appointed as his succesor. BOWLING PRAGNELL CUP CONTEST. - W. C. M. Sorensen, holder of the Pragnell Cup, last evening defeated G. Brown, of the Masterton Park Club, by 20 points to 15. On the Bth end the score was 8 all. At the 15th end the board read 15/13 in favour of Sorensen, and at the 20th end the holder led by 3 points, 18/15. Sorensen scored two in the last end and retained the trophy by 5 points. Sorensen has now played 20 times for this trophy and has won 19 games—a splendid record. In a club singles championship match, G. W. Hart beat H. Colson 16/14. Playing for the DeLacey Buttons, the holders, Newbould and Kilmister (s), beat the challengers, Taylor and Riggs (s), 18/12. On Friday next, weather permitting, a progressive pairs tourney will be played on the Carterton green commencing at 9 o’clock. Members are asked to place their names on the notice board. OBITUARY MRS J. F. JACKSON. The death occurred early this morning, at the Greytown Hospital, of Mrs Jeannie Fyfe Jackson, wife of Mr James McLeod Jackson, of Main Street, Greytown. The late Mrs Jackson was 42 years of age, and was a daughter of the late Mr William and Mrs Jackson, of Marton. She had resided in Greytown for the past 16 years, and is survived by her husband and two young daughters. Personal Items. Mrs L. Kay, who has been spending a few days in Carterton, returned to New Plymouth this morning. Mrs N. R. Armstrong has returned from a short visit to Napier. Miss Joyce Morris, of 29 Rhodes Street, Carterton, has received word that Driver V. Flight has arrived at his destination fit and well. Friesians Fine Performance. The Turepo Friesian stud owned by Mr C. A. Knutson, of Dalefleld, put up a very fine performance for the past season with 36 of'its members under G.0.H.T., to average 376.741 b. fat in 275 days. Included were 19 daughters of Totara Ranger Lad, and there were 12 two-year-olds and seven three-year-old heifers in the 36 tested stock. Five members exceeded 5001 b. with a top figure of 6141 b. Home Guard Dance. On Friday night the Carterton Home Guard will hold a dance in the State Theatre, commencing at 8.30 o’clock. Udy’s Orchestra will provide the music and novelty dances will be on the programme. The committee, of which Mr M. W. Worsfold is secretary, is sparing no pains to make the gathering a success. Swimming Club Sports. The Carterton Amateur Swimming Club held a sports meeting last evening. The results were as follows: — 75yds senior, I. McPhee 1, W. Spooner 2, P. Mills 3; 50yds ladies, A. Sorensen 1, M. Lawrence 2, B. Goodin 3; junior dive, P. Bond 1, B. Hemi 2, J. Callender 3; senior dive, D. McKenzie 1, P. Bond 2, Mignot 3; 25yds breaststroke, B. Berry 1, A. Sorensen 2, D. McKenzie 3; dual relay race, A. Booth and J. Callender 1, B. Desmond and D. McKenzie 2; beginner’s race, J. Mills 1, N. Mellish 2, J. Stark 3. Relay race, B. Desmond and D. McKenzie 1, A. Sorensen and M. Lawrence 2, B. Berry and M. Potter 2. REGENT THEATRE ’’DUMBO.” The outstanding circus picture, “Dumbo,” will be shown tonight. It is one of the best efforts Walt Disney has produced and is full of gay tunes. It is fully appreciated by patrons.
