STUD RAMS

WAIRARAPA BREEDERS’ SALE HELD AT SOLWAY TODAY. LARGE ATTENDANCE OF BUYERS. There was a large and representative attendance at the Wairarapa Stud Sheepbreeders’ annual stud ram fair, held at the Solway Showgrourids. Masterton, today. The entry totalled 188 stud Romney and Southdown rams, and represented an increase of 30 entries on last year’s total. The rams offered were consistent with the high standard of stud stock for which the Wairarapa district is noted. The vendors comprised the following breeders: —Sir William Perry, Mrs A. G. Hardy, Messrs R. M. Perry, W. A. C. Perry Trust, G. S .McLeod, R. Dysart and Sons, N. H. McLachlan, J. G. and I. R. Donald, A. P. Southey and Sons, L. A. Southey, J. Campbell, J. E. Hewitt, G. H. Weggery, L. N. Hoggard, G. E. Allen and Sons, T. Wyeth, Wairarapa Training Farm, A. G. Wyeth, G. H. McKay, Estate A. B. Cottle and H. Bowen.

The sale commenced with an offering of stud Southdown rams on account of R. M. Perry, Masterton. There was brisk bidding for a splendid animal, typical of the breed, which realised 410gns., being purchased at that figure by W. Dalziell and Son, Palmerston North. The ram was described as being short-legged, meaty, of good shape across the back and its nasal conformation picked it out as a champion. Bidding generally opened freely, though buyers were showing discrimination for animals of quality. Prices at the time of going to press were:— STUD SOUTHDOWN RAMS. A/c R. M.
