MADE BY RUSSIAN ARMIES

Blockade of Leningrad Broken TOWN OF SHLUSSELBURG CAPTURED ADVANCE ON ALL MAIN FRONTS CONTINUES LONDON, January 18. Moscow announces a successful offensive on the Leningrad front south of Lake Ladoga. Russian troops have broken the blockade of Leningrad and have captured Shlusselburg. The forces in Leningrad have joined hands with those on the Volkhov front to the south-east. The advance of the Russian armies on all the mam fronts is continuing successfully. The Moscow radio announced that the Russians have crossed the Donetz river, but gave no details. The Russians in front of Stalingrad have captured Pitormik aerodrome, the last link the Germans had with their entrapped force, which is now reported to be reduced to 60,000. In the action at the aerodrome the Russians captured 20 aircraft and 38 tanks. x The capture of Millerovo, the important town on the Voronezh-Rostov railway, which was announced last night, increases, the precariousness of the Germans ’ position in the lower Don and Donetz river basins. It is the centre of the railway network embracing Voronezh, Rostov and Voroshilovgrad, and it also gives the Russians a base for a new drive on Kharkov! Jihe Russians had previously passed Millerovo, which the Germans without avail turtned into a “hedgehog.”
