AGAINST JAPANESE IN THE PACIFIC URGED BY NETHERLANDS COMMISSIONER. TIME NOW WORKING AGAINST US (By Telegraph—Press Association.) (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. “Preparation for an offensive against the Japanese in the SouthWest Pacific should be pushed ahead without delay,” declared the Netherlands East Indies Commissioner in Australia and New Zealand, Dr Van Der Plas. “Time, which previously worked for the Allies in the Pacific war, now works against us, as.the Japanese entrench themselves around their conquered territories.” Dr Van Der Plas strongly support ed the appeal by the Australian Prime Minister (Mr Curtin) for a greater share of the United Nations’ resources to prosecute the war in the South-West Pacific.

DURING GUNNERY PRACTICE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Sergeant Clifford Marston. R.N.Z.A.F., suffered a fractured ankle and was admitted to hospital as a result 1 of injuries received during gunnery exercises on Thursday. His wife is Mrs P. L. Marston, Gisborne.
