PRISONERS OF WAR
GOODS THAT MAY BE SENT IN PARCELS NUMEROUS ACKNOWLEDGMENTS RECEIVED. FROM MEN IN GERMAN CAMPS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In response to a cabled inquiry, the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office announces that tin or bakelite plates, and ordinary forks and spoons,- may be included in next of kin parcels, but knives are still prohibited. Two further additional lists of Britons interned at or evacuated from Malaya may be inspected at Prisoners of War and Joint Council centre offices throughout the Dominion. Over 220 acknowledgments of quarterly parcels have been received from German camps this week. Next of kin are requested to include in quarterly parcels a yard of calico cloth or clean sacking to provide an outside wrapping for parcels. Woollen sets, containing one heavy Army jersey and three pairs of Army socks, are now available for men in German camps. Next of kin who desire to include a set in a quarterly parcel are requested to write to Headquarters, 96 Tory Street, . Wellington. Khaki shirts for men in' Italian camps will be available at the end of January. The name and address of the prisoner must be given in applying, also his size. Applications will be acknowledged when the office is in a position to advise the cost and to give instructions as to the method of purchase. The total number of prisoners officially notified is still just over 8,000.
