TAKEN BY RUSSIANS

IMPORTANT RAILWAY TOWN EAST OF VOROSHILOVSK. GAINS IN OTHER AREAS. LONDON, January 15. Soviet troops captured Blagodarnoe, an important railway town 72 miles east of Voroshilovsk. Blagodarnoe is the terminius of a railway which runs across the Kuban and connects with the main line from Baku to Rostov. South of the Lower Don, the Russians have taken seven more villages. The midnight Soviet communique states that the Russians have occupied several places in the northern Donetz area. This is the first indication of that area being reached by the Russians.

In Stalingrad, Red Guards have repelled counter-attacks and cleared the enemy out of several more streets. In the Lower Don region and on the central front further enemy counterattacks have been smashed.
