NO DISSENSION
BETWEEN GREAT BRITAIN & UNITED STATES OVER POLITICAL SITUATION IN NORTH AFRICA. STATEMENT BY BRITISH . MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, January 14. Statements on the French political situation have been made in London and in Algeria. The Minister of Information, Mr Brendan Bracken, said that neither the British Government nor the United States Government had tried to obstruct the meeting between General Giraud and General de Gaulle. The opposite was the case. There was no truth in the suggestion, he said, that Britain was backing General de Gaulle as the leader of France, and that America was backing General Giraud. Britain had given power of attorney to General Eisenhower and had every confidence in him. He hoped the political situation in North Africa would soon be cleared up. The British Minister in Algiers said a settlement was in sight which would remove the objections which had been apparent in North Africa.
