Despite Axis submarine and air force efforts, Allied convoys are steadily arriving in North Africa. The Royal Navy, since the Allied landings on November 7, has escorted 971 merchantmen, totalling 750,000 tons, to North Africa. Cargoes include large quantities of material for distribution among civilians. Warships are averaging 24 to 27 days’ steaming monthly. The Allies are now using submarine bases in North Africa from which they are severely harrying Axis supply lines.
