WELLINGTON MEETING ROYAL LANCER’S CUP PROSPECTS FORM SELECTIONS. Trentham will be a centre of interest to the racing community on Saturday when the Wellington Racing Club will hold the first day of its summer meeting. Large fields of good quality are engaged and the clash between North and South Island form should provide entertaining racing _in addition to presenting punters with problems. The main race on the card is the Wellington Cup of two miles, and through Kindergarten not running the scale, of weights is considerably lighty er than would have otherwise been. It will make the race a fairly open one but from the form that has been shown this season it seems as if the topweights will fare best. Royal Lancer, known as ‘‘the Kindergarten of the South,” looks the pick of the field. His New Zealand Cup win and his subsequent form is all the recommendation that is required. The North Island will probably furnish the favourite in Lou Rosa in view of his recent Ellerslie form. Lou Rosa was runner-up to Kindergarten in the Auckland Cup and later at the meeting won a race and broke the track record. Lou Rosa’s showing against Royal Lancer will give a line on just how good Royal Lancer is compared with Kindergarten. Happy Ending, winner of the Wellington Cup and the New Zealand Cup last year, is in at a light weight and must be given a chance. The light preparation he has had should suit him and local sportsmen would be pleased to see Mr J. D. McDougall, of Masterton, the owner of Happy Ending, collect the trophy again. Lower in the weights Battledress, Foxola, Indian Princess, The Joker and High Class form dangerous opposition. However, holding to form, it would appear that the horses likely to interest the investors most are

Royal Lancer, Lou Rosa, ’Happy Ending.

On the other side of the double is the Telegraph Handicap. Palora is the form horse, with a win and three seconds to its credit' in the last four starts. Celebrity and Payroll appear to be approaching winning form and other horses who need only to improve a little to win include Autolite, Beau Vaals, Neenah and Scottish Dale. The Champ, Fur Coat, and Mauretania have had recent wins to their credit. The field is so very even that the public will probably not make any one a hot favourite but support will most likely come for Palora, Beau Vaals, Celebrity. OTHER EVENTS. For the other events the following horses have recent form to their credit: — Trentham Highweight (12.0): Pastmaster, Vitement, Cuisinier. Wellington Stakes (12.42): Clarice, Sudabar, Olga’s Pal. Apprentices’ Hack Handicap (1.26): Stourbridge, Royal Merit, Good Scout. Fitzherbert Handicap (2.9): Barrosa, Carnforth, Skyhawk. Ruapehu Handicap (3.42): Cheap Lodging, Sal, Powys. Anniversary Handicap (5.15): Daljarrock, Indian Sign, Rink. Cup riders already announced or likely include Royal Lancer, W. F. Ellis; Lou Rosa, W. J. Broughton; Gladynev, A. Jenkins; Happy A.
