MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SITTING IN MASTERTON TODAY. MAORI CHARGED WITH THEFT. There was a light list of charges at the first sitting this year of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court, held this morning. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on the Bench. A Maori. Horace J. Green, was admitted to probation for three years on a charge of stealing a pair of shoes valued at £1 10s. Sneior Sergeant C. Murphy stated that the accused was a kleptomaniac. Mr 11. H. Daniell, who appeared for Green, said that the accused had had an unfortunate home upbringing. Mr Lawry said that Green had been charged with five cases of theft as a juvenile, but he would give him a chance. / CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment for plaintiff by default was a given in the following undefended civil cases: — The Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society v. Les Vernon Pahl, claim £2BB, costs £4 11s 6d; A. R. Clarkson and W. G. Lamb (trustees es-' tate of William Pragnell) v. Robert C. Baikie, claim £24 10s, costs £6 10s. An order was made for possession of shop premises occupied by the defendant.
