MINIATURE CLOUDBURST
PORTIONS OF TOWN AGAIN DRENCHED. A FIVE MINUTE DELUGE.' A miniature cloudburst drenched portions of Masterton borough yesterday afternoon at about four o’clock. For a period of five minutes or so there was a real deluge and in a few moments the ground was covered in water. Spoutings were unable to carry the water, which poured over the guttering in places as if it came from a fire hose. Now that the weather recording instruments have been removed, from Mastertdn, no one knows how much rain fell but there must have been something between a quarter and, half an inch. The Solway area missed the deluge and in consequence Mr H. M. Boddington’s record for the 24 hours only showed nine points. The western side of the borough appears to have experienced the heaviest rainfall. This was the second day in succession on which heavy rain fell in Masterton. On the previous evening an inch was recorded in two hours.
