Broadcaster, Grey Night, Kilometre, Tuatara, 8.0. OPAKI TRACK WORK FINALS FOR TRENTHAM CANDIDATES. THE CHAMP INJURED. Yesterday afternoon's drenching rain made little impression on the Opaki race track, and although the “plough” was not usable, the track was in good order for working gallops this morning T. R. George gave his Trentham candidates a final work-out, in addition to exercising others in his team, and Ashley Jenkins had his team in work. The Champ was let off with light exercise. He has injured one of his legs, and if the swelling gets any worse he will not run in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. The Champ looks a trifle on the lean side, and at present he cannot be recommended. Indian Sign (Jenkins) and Kentucky (Smith) ran 5 together in 1.71/2. They finished in line, with Indian Sign blowing like a pair of bellows. Kentucky is looking fit and well, and will be ridden by K. Smith on the second day at Trentham. It will be a while yet before he is ready to salute the judge. Indian Sign will have to improve to be accorded support. Olein and Gamble ran six together in I.lB’/ 2 . Gamble shaded Olein. Gamble is engaged in the Highweight Handicap at Trentham on the first day, but a mile and three furlongs seems too far for him. Over a i shorter tr.ip he should be a distinct possibility in the near future. Cheerful Lady, one of Ashley Jenkins’s team, did some useful gallops. Full Light and Gay Fox were also worked.
