SOME TO BE MOVED FROM DAKAR TO EXPEDITE REFITTING. CREWS EAGER TO FIGHT AXIS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, January 11. Admiral Glassford, who heads the United States mission to Dakar, said some units of the French fleet at Dakar were to be moved for. refitting, states a correspondent at Allied Headquarters in Algiers. French sailors, said Admiral Glassford, were anxious to fight, the Axis and were looking forward to being at sea again shortly, actively engaged against the Axis. He added that he was impressed by the defences of the port of Dakar. Admiral Glassford said that within a few months the Richelieu would be a top-notch ship, fighting with the Allied navies. “She is a beautiful thing, with many technical features which are a revelation to our staffs,” he said. The French warships at present at Dakar, he added, were very well constructed, but needed modern anti-submarine devices. A number of technical experts had arrived to supervise the work, but some of the ships would have to be sent elsewhere for refitting.
