DAMAGE & CASUALTIES IN EAST ANGLIA SHOPPERS MACHINE-GUNNED 1 |N VILLAGE. DORNIER 217, SHOT DOWN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) RUGBY, January 9. It is officially stated that enemy aircraft dropped bombs today in places near the coast of East Anglia. Some damage and a small number of casualties were caused. Another message states that five persons were killed and a dozen injured when a raider made a low-level attack on an East Anglian village in which a number of women were shopping. Many houses were demolished or damaged by bombs. The raider then mach-ine-gunned the streets. A number of persons who were trapped in debris were dug out by the civil defence authorities. A Dorner 217 was shot down when two raiders machine-gunned an East Anglian coast town.
