HEAVY RAIN

MASTERTON AND DISTRICT BENEFITS. WATER CHANNELS OVERTAXED. Masterton and district were drenched in rain last evening, about an inch falling in two hours between 6 and 8 o’clock. Temporary flooding of a minor nature was caused in several streets, owing to the water channels being unable to cope with the sudden rush of water. Water found its way into a Queen Street shop by flowing in from the' rear of the premises, due to downpipe and spouting trouble, but no damage was done to the stock. The rain was very welcome to gardeners, whose supply of water has been limited owing to hosing restrictions. At Solway, Mr H. M. Boddington recorded a fall for the 24 hours up to 9 o’clock this morning of 110 points.
