BOWLING
MASTERTON CLUB ANNIVERSARY DAY TOURNEY. NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” On Anniversary Day the Masterton Club will hold a rink tourney, commencing at 9 a.m. The club selector will make up the teams. Those players who desire to take part in the tourney are asked to make their entries as early as possible. An old and respected member of the Masterton Club, Mr Leslie Dorset, has kindly donated trophies for the winning team, to the value of £2 2s. BIRTHDAY GATHERING MR NIELSEN ENTERTAINS BOWLERS. Yesterday afternoon an old member of the Masterton Club, Mr E. W. Nielsen, entertained the players at afternoon tea, the occasion being his 70th birthday. The president, Mr H. Thomas, on behalf of the club, congratulated Mr .■ Nielsen on his reaching 70 years of age, and spoke of the excellent services Mr Nielsen had rendered to the club. Mr Nielsen, he stated, was one of the most popular members of the club. He was a good bowler, a loyal citizen, and one of nature’s gentlemen. Mr Thomas also made eulogistic references to Mrs Nielsen. Messrs A. Chapman and C. Perry referred to the excellent personal qualities possessed by Mr Nielsen. After the president had expressed the wish that both Mr and Mrs Nielsen ■. ( would have many years of happiness and good health, the enjoyable gathering was brought to a conclusion by all the players singing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
