OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
TRANSPORT OF LAMBS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—We are told of the loss in lambs driven to the freezing works as against those lorried. The wonderful reputation New Zealand lamb, has on the London market was obtained by lambs walked to the works years before motor transport appeared in New Zealand. From 1904 to 1909 I managed a property which fattened a large number of lambs each year. These lambs were driven to the Masterton Station and then railed to Wellington works. The weights and grading were equal to those of the lambs of today. The public have just had a drastic cut in their passenger and goods service; yet the cartage of livestock goes on as before. Meanwhile the drovers sit around waiting for something to turn up. Thanking you for space.-— I am, etc., OLD TIMER. Master ton, January 11.
